FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Energy Conservation Proves a Winner
Echoflex one of the top prize winners among 200 technology entrepreneurs

Tuesday, September 30th, 2008 – Vancouver BC – Energy conservation dominated the awards at New Ventures’ BC Award Ceremony. All three top awards went to entrepreneurs focused on innovative and ground-breaking technological ideas in energy conservation.

“The fact that all three winners work within the energy conservation field really speaks to BC’s place on the international map as a leader in sustainability and our entrepreneurs are clearly making a large contribution to that reputation,” says Ernie Love, Chair of BC Ventures Society.

Local Vancouver company Saltworks Technologies took home first prize for its solar desalination technology. Small Energy Group took second prize and third prize went to Squamish-based Echoflex Solutions. The winners all received BC Innovation Council Proof- of-Concept awards.

The four-round competition attracted close to 200 entrants from across BC, starting in April.  Competitors were ultimately tasked with convincing a jury of venture capitalists, financiers and angel investors that their business idea was commercially viable and applicable to the marketplace.

The New Ventures BC competition is an avenue for technological business entrepreneurs to get their ideas into the public eye, while receiving mentorship from high profile business members.
