Commercial lighting systems are often stand‐alone systems comprised of centralized control panels, scheduling interfaces, astronomical time keepers, sensors and switches. These systems are good at providing control across a large facility and more are now integrating with networked automation systems further increasing their value. A feature consistent with all these systems is they are more applicable to new construction then retrofit applications. It is too costly, too difficult, and too invasive to consider these systems for retrofit applications.
How does one acquire efficient lighting control for a facility which doesn’t require you to strip wall‐board and completely re‐wire the space?
Wireless technology has been around for some time but the caveat has always been that it is not truly wireless because you need to provide power; either line voltage or low voltage but still power and that means wires.
Echoflex lighting control solutions are based on EnOcean technology. EnOcean is a wireless technology using low power radios allowing monitoring devices of light level or occupancy state to harvest and store energy from the surrounding environment. These battery‐free devices detect, monitor and transmit data to the receiving controller. There is no need for communication or power wires or any of the mounting hardware normally associated with installation.
