Industrial, warehousing and plant floor operations can be the "low hanging fruit" for facility managers interested in lowering their energy bills. These spaces typically have a large number of high wattage light fixtures on full output for the entire day with a low number of people working in the space.

The opportunity to save some energy in these spaces can be straight forward and have a real impact on the bottom line. A common upgrade for these spaces is to upgrade the fixtures to dual ballast high-bay fixtures that offer high efficiency high output fluorescent bulbs. Upgrading to a dual ballast fixture allows two stage lighting to be implemented so areas that have little to no occupancy will have reduced lighting output and areas where workers are active, full lighting output.

Warehouses and shop floors are designed for capacity, maneuverability, and quick access making it troublesome to access lighting circuits. With a conventional wired control system, wires must be run up walls and along ceiling spaces creating disruption and expense. Controls are designed for full 20 amp circuits and can be placed at the head of a circuit or dual channel controllers installed in fixtures. Occupancy sensors are powered from the controller with occupancy status broadcast to other controllers creating multi-circuit lighting zones. Further control is achieved easily by adding door or window interlocks that communicate with heating & air-conditioning equipment triggering morning warm-up.
