The walls that enclose the spaces within the house are of four types (in order of area / quantity). :
1) poured concrete (exposed and sandblasted)
2) SIP walls
3) window glazing
4) traditional stud walls (not very much of this at all!)
It's simply impossible, impractical or undesirable to install any type of wiring in the first three wall types.
Similarly, the roof is entirely of exposed glulam timber and SIP construction above.
Stewart Brand wrote a very interesting book called "How Buildings Learn" where he very convincingly argues that building structure should be separated and independent of building services (plumbing, wiring, HVAC, etc).
All of this is a very compelling reason to use the wireless switches. Passive solar buildings (at least residential), with the required large amounts of glazing, concrete, and in my case SIP exterior walls are all difficult to wire conventionally. The wireless technology facilitates the building typology.
